Intro
Bring Me The Horizon. As a metalcore fan you either love them or hate them with such a passion that you believe they killed the genre. No in between. Personally I fall under that category that loves this band to death despite the lackluster releases in recent years. However, this album breaks that trend in an amazing way. I can see why some elitists of the genre would hate this but any true metalcore fan knows that this is what the genre is meant to be, a weird hybrid of pop and meal reminiscent of Attack Attack! and early Asking Alexandria. That being said though this album is definitely not perfect but is FAR from bad. With that though let's get into the review.
Thoughts & Feelings
This album makes me feel like how I imagine the first people to hear Attack Attack! felt, confused as all hell but loving every second of it. This is pop metalcore at its finest and the hyperpop elements thrown in add so much an already unique depth and sound. This album also made me think that the release process was dragged on, some of the singles on here have been out since 2022, but it was all worth it for the non singles on here. enough rambling though, lets get into the review.
Smash or Pass?
[ost] dreamseaker- smash. Its an intro "cinematic" literally just noise.
YOUtopia- SSMMMAASSHHH. THIS IS THE REAL OPENER AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. This song is fucking GREAT. You can definitely feel the more hyperpop sound the band was going for on this track and im perfectly ok with that. If this is the only song a metal fan heard on the album I'd understand why they turned it off, only metal element is a guitar solo and a little bit of screaming. Great opener.
Kool-Aid- SSSSSSMMMMMAAAAAAASSSSSSSHHHHH. THERE IS THE METALCORE WE ALL KNOW FROM THIS BAND. AND PERFECT TRANSITION INTO IT. Heavy as FUCK compared to the last song. God this song is fucking amazing, the metal elements perfectly mix with the hyperpop this album brings to the table. The screaming on this song is just as good as it was on Sempiternal and the cleans are amazing too. Oli is at his absolute peak on this record. BREAKDOWN. Don't see those as much from this band anymore so its always appreciated when it happens. ANOTHER PEFECT TRANSITION OUT OF THIS SONG.
Top 10 staTues tHat CriED bloOd- SSMMMMAAASSSSHHHHH. Stupid ass name aside this song is a hyperpop masterpiece. Would I call this metal? Fuck no, but its also not pure pop. This is what BMTH does so perfectly now, a pop-metal hybrid with influences from everything in between. This song definitely sounds closer to 100 Gecs than any other metal band that BMTH is usually associated with. As a fan of hyperpop I love this song but I see why most BMTH fans would hate this. It does have a short but nice metallic breakdown about halfway through but by that point the people who want that already left. Another great song to start the album off.
liMOusIne- SMASH. ANOTHER PERFECT TRANSITION. If I remember correctly almost every song has one. This song is way heavier and slower than the rest so far but its needed to shift the tone. The feature verse from AURORA is amazing, her voice compliments Oli's so well and just fits the song so well. This song is great again. WHAT A BREAKDOWN AT THE END.
DArkSide- SSSMMMMMAAAAASSHHHH. No perfect fade in transition on this one but the song is fucking amazing and doesn't need one. This song has been out for a while but fits on this album perfectly. This is way more of a metalcore song than most of what is on this album but I know that most likely this song wasn't written to be on this album so I can't complain, especially because the song is good.
a bulleT w/ my namE On- SMASH. This one is almost pure hyperpop and I'm ok with it. I get why metal fans hate this album though, songs like this. MASSIVE FUCKING BREAKDOWN. Underoath being on this track adds so much to an already great song with the metal elements that this song needed to fit on this album. Another one I have no complaints for but most people who listen to this band will hate. Weird ending.
[ost] (spi)ritual- Smash. Just an instrumental intermission to split up the album. Its just a halfway decent digital beat with some weird noises over it. I would hate this if it wasnt a transition song, as labeled by the [ost] thing.
n/A- SSSSSSSSSSSMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH. GREEN DAY BABBBBYYYYYYYY. THIS SONG IS SO FUCKING GOOD. Its a slow, angry track that just explodes into pure rage and I love every fucking second of it. The melody is great and the chorus is fucking LEGENDARY. Everything about this song screams Green Day and I couldn't love it more. First offical "LISTEN TO THIS FUCKING SONG" award of the album. WHAT A BREAKDOWN AT THE END. INSTANT GOLD MEDAL. PERFECT TRANISTIONS BOTH WAYS TO CAP IT OFF.
LosT- SSMMAASSHH. Every self respecting BMTH fan listened to this as soon as it came out over a year ago. This song is great but not as good as some of the others on this album. That being said though this is very hyperpop compared to anything else on here so i get why alot of the metal fans hate this song more than anything, especially with its fame.
sTraNgeRs- SSMMMAAASSSHHHH. The second single on the album. Released almost 2 FUCKING YEARS AGO. Jesus that's insane but the wait was worth it for the full album. Because the gap between this and DiE4u on the releases, I initially thought the naming scheme on that song was just the band being assholes, but it was used to identify songs on this record. With that out of the way this song is great, no complaints at all.
R.i.p (duskCOre Remix)- SMASH. As someone who likes hyperpop I'm ok with this but this does NOT fit on this record. This belongs on 10000 Gecs and nowhere near a BMTH project. The song is great but just out of place. Again, I like it but if you read this site you probably wont. Unless you lik- PERFECT TRANSITION.
AmEN!- SSSSMMMAAAAASSSSSHHHHH. WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK. THIS SONG IS SO FUCKING GOOD. THE FEATURES HIT SO FUCKING HARD ON HERE. That Lil Uzi Vert verse is fucking amazing and for only being a small feature adds so much here. Daryl from Glassjaw is on here too and he fucking KILLS it in his parts.
[ost] p.u.s.s.-e- SMASH. Best of the [ost] tracks by far. A loud, brutal hardstyle that just sets the tone for the last 2 songs perfectly. Then it fades into a slower, poppier track and picks up again FAST. This song is weird as all hell but I could definitely see some DJs doing some cool shit with this track.
DiE4u- SSMMAASHH. Another massive song that I didn't know was for an album until I put the naming scheme together. This song is... 3 FUCKING YEARS OLD. JESUS CHRIST BOYS WHY DID YOU MAKE US WAIT???? This song is fucking great and does everything this album has done perfectly just as good as before.
DIg It- SMASH. Weird ass robotic opening. Then the song starts. Its a slow melodic pop-rock emo ballad but fits perfectly as the closer to this album. Bit of a pick up around the 3 min mark, speaking of that my first "complaint" on the album. This song tries to do the classic "hidden track" trick that CDs and vinyl used to do, only issue is that as a digital album to hide it instead of making this song 5 minutes like it actually is, they made it 7 minutes with like 2 minutes of silence followed by the hidden "track". Again though, I cant complain as a hidden track on a digital album actually caught me off guard. However I complain that because of this 2 min of silence I cant put the song on my playlist as they didn't release a version without it. The hidden message though. What a fucking teaser for the next album.
Conclusion
This album is fucking amazing. I have honestly never listened to anything like this and probably won't until POST HUMAN 3 comes out. The album is so unique I cant even comprehend how to describe it in one paragraph. Just listen to it, It's long as all hell though at nearly an hour with no rests at all. The perfect transitions on these songs are incredible and really add alot to an already amazing record.
