Intro
Well here we go. I'm going to be reviewing EVERY Panic! album. So lets keep going in order with this one. This is not advertised as Punk so hopefully this doesn't disappoint too much. Anyways no ranting on this one because I cant call this the worst punk album like I could the last one. This is a pop record and its advertised as such.
Thoughts & Feelings
I've never listened to this album for very obvious reasons so I will come back and do this after, for now I will say my hopes are up as Shark likes a song on this one.
I went into this expecting to be raging by the end. that did not happen. just read the review I'm done why did I put off this album for so long?
Smash Or Pass?
We're So Starving- Smash. Surprisingly we are off to a pretty good start (by Panic standards). Short little intro song.
Nine in the Afternoon- SMASH. WHY IS THIS SONG GOOD. WHAT THE FUCK. LIKE NOT EVEN BY PANIC STANDARDS THIS SONG SLAPS. This song is starting to get my hopes up, sadly this is the biggest hit on this album. Not A good sign after how the last one went. The vocals actually sound good here can't lie. Brendon don't fuck it up.
She's a Handsome Woman- Smash. This miles more of a rock album than Fever. Why is this called a pop album. The instruments sound great, the vocals are actually decent, and the lyrics themselves are not nearly as weird and horny. Very good guitars here. Urie is actually a very good guitarist he just never plays unless he has to. I'm genuinely impressed so far.
Do You Know What I'm Seeing- SMASH. Tally Hall?? This sounds EXACTLY like Tally Hall. Not a bad thing at all (I own both albums on vinyl) it just caught me off guard. This song slaps again. This sounds like a song written by Rob Cantor of Tally Hall would write. Very good start to this review.
That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)- SSMMAASSHH. AGAIN. WHY IS THIS ALBUM FUCKING BANGING. It is CRIMINAL that this is the least popular album. This is honestly the BEST Pop Rock album I have listened to in years. The instrumentals fucking slap and Brendon sounds great on vocals finally. Best Song yet hands down.
I Have Friends in Holy Spaces- SMASH. Oh no. This song again SLAPS. I was gonna do every Panic! album as an excuse to rant on this site. this album is making me think there might be a chance that won't happen. Short little baroque sounding song, pretty neat.
Northern Downpour- Smash. Very good acoustic guitar opening, GREAT VOCALS SOMEHOW. Good electric guitar in the background. This is definitely a ballad song but this is a VERY good ballad. How is this album considered pop?? This is 100% a pop rock album. This album has a lot of Tally Hall/ Will Wood vibes, not my favorite genre but when done well it is VERY good. Just like it is here.
When the Day Met the Night- SSSMMMAAASSSHHH. I have no words. This is a VERY good song on a VERY good album. If I had no idea I would have thought this was a Tally Hall reunion with Brendon Urie as a guest vocalist. With the amount I've been talking about Tally Hall I might have to do a review of one of their albums. THIS SONG EVEN HAS SKA LIKE HORNS. THIS SONG S L A P S. This is playlist worthy. I'm VERY impressed.
Pas de Cheval- SSMMMMAAAAASSSHHHHH. I don't know what to say, after losing my fucking mid on the last Panic! album I feel bad calling that pile of dog shit their best work. This album blows that album off the earth. If you can't tell I had listened to that album and a few random songs prior to that review. I just hated what I had heard that far. Now for this song. THIS SONG FUCKING ROCKS OH MY GOD. GUITAR SOLOS, HORNS, GOOD VOCALS, EVERYTHING IS G R E A T. NEW BEST.
The Piano Knows Something I Don't- Smash. There is no way I could have known this was P!ATD if I wasn't told. this sounds like Arctic Monkeys had a child with Will Wood and I'm ALL for it. This song is another bop. Cool use of horns, bells, guitars, and the vocals are AMAZING on this album.
Behind The Sea- Smash. Brendon isn't singing to open this track. I NEVER thought I would ever say this. But.... Bring Back Brendon's Vocals. This guy isn't bad at ALL but my GOD is this album's Brendon SO FUCKING GOOD. This song is split between the 2 but sounds VERY good. Well my dreams of hating EVERYTHING panic ever made is 100% dead. This album is a BOP.
Folkin' Around- Smash. Well that took a fucking TURN. This is a goddamn COUNTRY SONG. Its not bad at all but I HATE country with a burning passion. Brendon's vocals CARRY this song though. Well he actually says how I feel currently in this song. "And I'll have the courtesy of admitting I was wrong" I was wrong. Panic! At The Disco is a GREAT band even if this is the only album they are any good on doesn't matter. I KNOW there is at LEAST one smash on the next album, but this album is gonna be VERY had to beat. Good Job Boys. You broke me.
She Had The World- Smash. Weird use of Baroque instruments to open this song but it works so well here. Brendon sounds INCREDIBLE again. Who is this other singer?? I've got to look it up. Ryan Ross. WOW this guy is great. I'd take his vocals over Fever era Brendon ANY day. HOWEVER. Brendon sounds AMAZING on this record.
From a Mountain in the Middle of the Cabins- Smash. This song is great again. I'm honestly speechless. This album has 0 business being ANY good, let alone what might just be the BEST Pop Rock album I have ever heard. Hats off to the band on this one. Great work.
Mad as Rabbits- SSSMMAAASSHHH. Punk opening. This song is MILES more "punk" than ANYTHING on Fever, the supposed "Pop Punk" album. This song is definitely more pop than punk though. but like I said in the opening. This is NOT a punk album and was not advertised as such. This is a POP ROCK album, and that is executed PERFECTLY. This is an AMAZING closing track. What an album.
Conclusion
Wow. Just Wow. I have no words. This album SLAPS. I am VERY impressed here. This is by FAR the best P!ATD album I have heard. SO FAR. I got my hopes up on this one because Shark liked a song, the next album has my FAVORITE panic song of all time. So, lets see if anything can beat it. Some of the songs on this album came VERY close but just couldn't beat Hurricane. Let's hope that changes.
RANK: A-
I was NOT expecting that result at all. I was expecting another D- or even an F. Do you agree with me on this ranking? Want me to know how much of a fucking IDIOT I am for dogging on this band in the first review? Let me know in the comments. I have no idea when I'll be able to do that Bloody Crazy review as I'm waiting on the test subject to stop being a fucking Corpse (hint hint). I will definitely be nicer to bands I hate in the future because there MIGHT just be that piece of gold in a field of rocks. And sorry for no review yesterday, I went to see Godsmack (Fucking AWESOME show, go if you ever get the chance). So anyways thanks for reading, I'll be back again shortly with another HOPEFULLY good album.
