Intro
Simple Plan. I got to see them live this past Sunday (Aug 20, 2023) and they slapped. Prior to that show I knew like 3 songs and 2 of them are on this album. So with that I'm excited to listen to this album and see what this band really is because I always thought they were a Boy-Band pop group and not a punk band but I was mistaken.
Also fun side note, they no longer have a bassist. They use a bass track live.
Thoughts & Feelings
This band is MUCH more punk than I expected, but I should have known if they were touring with Sum 41 and the Offspring. Other than that I'll have to let the album decide the rest of my feelings.
Smash or Pass?
I'd Do Anything- Smash. They played this live, I think they opened with it. For the song, Its great. This is way more punk than I would have expected if I never saw them live.
The Worst Day Ever- Smash. God Damn this is Emo. Not a bad thing at all, I LOVE Emo, its just more than I expected. The instrumentals from this band are great but I can tell shark would HATE these vocals. This is his definition of Bitch Punk.
You Don't Mean Anything- Smash. another good punk song but wow are these vocals/lyrics Emo. Emo isn't even listed on on the Wiki as a genre for this album but it 100% is.
I'm Just a Kid- "Smash. Very popular song, good for singing in the shower. I love the instrumentals, definitely emo feel as it is emo music. Very sing-able. Definitely a gateway drug to the rest of their music. We do not promote drugs here on www.punkrockpicks.com." SMASH. This song is great and 90% of people know this one. Emerson said it best so I'll just use her review of this one.
When I'm with You- Smash. This is not as good as the last one but is still great. Much more punk than the last few but these vocals are so fucking Emo its crazy.
Meet You There- Smash. This is much slower than the other, first real ballad of the album but its needed to shake up the pace a bit. Really gets it all the more exciting for the next song. Most everyone knows the next one.
Addicted- SMASH. Another VERY popular one, and deservingly so. This song is EXACTLY what an Emo ballad should be. Just fast enough to be punk but slow enough to get Emotion across.
My Alien- Smash. Seamless transition from the last one. love to see it. Weird as fuck lyrics but not surprising at this point. Good instrumentals though.
God Must Hate Me- Smash. This is pretty generic emo pop punk. Nothing special but not bad when its done well.
I Won't Be There- Smash. Again pretty generic sounding but its not horrible at all. This is definition early 2000s Emo Punk.
One Day- Smash. weird opening using acoustic but it goes back to generic pop punk. I see why this stretch of the album has so few plays compared to the rest.
Perfect- Smash. This is the last song and the album and its a big ballad. This song is INSANELY popular compared to the rest of the songs on here. Its just too long for my taste and very slow. I see why this song is so popular but it just doesn't fit in with what I like.
Conclusion
This album is pretty good. Nothing special or revolutionary here but the songs are all good and the big hits are recognizable. This album does not make me want to listen to more of their work but it wasn't so bad i never want to listen to them again.
RANK: B
This album is mid. That is the only word to describe it. Any Feedback is welcome and appreciated.
