Intro

Happy Monday everyone. This weekend was a bit of a mess for me so we're gonna get straight into the classic theme of me trying to review every Green Day album. Insomniac is an extremely underrated album, and I think most of the songs on here if not every single one is an absolute hit. These are some great songs, so definitely check out this album. It has that old school Green Day punk rock vibe to it so it's perfect for guys like me. Let's go.

Thoughts & Feelings?

This album makes me feel like I'm in a bad place, mentally. There's a lot of songs on here that are about not being okay in the head. Especially Panic Song and Geek Stink Breath. This album makes me feel like I'm going through so many fucking problems and I just have to deal with them. I don't really know man, don't ask me to elaborate further.

I don't know what I'm going to do when I run out of Green Day albums to review. That's gonna be really fucking sad for me, because these albums are just my favourite to talk about. Sure I do love exploring new music and everything, but going back to my favourite band on planet earth is always my favourite thing.

Smash or Pass?

Armatage Shanks - SMMMMAAAAASSSHHHH. What a great fucking opening track to this album. It sets the tone perfectly. Great opening drums, nice sexy guitar to hook you in, and just an overall jam vibe to this one. Everything is super catchy and works so well. Honestly this is definitely one of my favourite songs on this album, and I have a feeling I'm going to be saying that a lot.

Brat - SMMMMMAAAAAAASSSHHHHHHH. What an absolutely underrated smash. This song is so fucking jammy and catchy that it's just perfect. This is such a great song, honestly one of the best on the album. Holy fuck what a short song but it's perfect.

Stuck with Me - SMASH. This one has got a really catchy guitar line but it's nothing near close to the other songs on this album. This is a great song regardless though. Works perfectly, super catchy and honestly I forgot I can play this on guitar. This song is super fun to play.

Geek Stink Breath - SMASH. This is a bit of a slower song but it's super jammy and sounds great. Obviously the song is about smoking meth but whatever you know it's an interesting concept and I really think the guitar is unique in this one. It has a cool progression that I enjoy during the chorus. Plus the whole main riff is really sick.

No Pride - SMAAASSHHH. This is another super underrated song that I think sounds fucking fantastic. This song is just SO enjoyable to listen to I fucking love it. It's so simple and standard but I think that's partially the reason why I enjoy it so much. It's just so easy.

Bab's Uvula Who? - SMMAAASSSHHH. This is a GREAT fucking song. I always forget about this song but every time it comes on I'm fucking hyped. I love how unique all these songs are. It's honestly difficult to find songs that sound similar to each other cause they all have their own unique sound / quirks to them. It's great.

86 - SMMMMAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH. This is the best song on the album in my opinion. There is SO much to enjoy in this fucking song. Not only does it sound fucking FANTASTIC, there's an incredible story behind this. This song is about the band getting kicked out of 924 Gillman Street because they got "too popular" after Dookie was released. Their favourite punk club of all time and they were banned from playing there. I fucking love that they wrote a song about that incident. Years later of course the ban was lifted and they were allowed to play there again but still, so fucking stupid how our culture can be sometimes. Still, my favourite song on this album. BY FAR.

Panic Song - SMMMMMMMAAAAAASSSHHHHH. This is another FUCKING banger. I can relate to this song so much. So for those of you not listening, half the entire song is instrumental because it's supposed to simulate a panic attack. Then the vocals come in and the song changes pretty much completely and it's incredible. This is a really really great song in my opinion. What a great fucking song it's so catchy.

Stuart and the Ave. - SMMMAAASSHHH. This is an EXTREMELY underrated song. Holy fuck the bass lines in this song are so fucking cool. Shoutout to Mike Dirnt for being the absolute GOAT of this album. He honestly slaps so fucking hard (not literally) on this album. This song is so fucking catchy and is such an underrated pick. I used to go to a local guitar store where one of the workers would praise this song as his favourite from Green Day.

Brain Stew - SMASH. Naturally of course this is an incredible song but I'm going to be focusing on more of the underrated picks of this album. Yes, this song is fucking incredible and the easiest Green Day song ever on guitar, yes it was amazing and commercially successful but holy fuck I want to move on. Yes yes I know it's fantastic. Moving on.

Jaded - SMMAASSHHH. Holy fuck I love transition songs. This song is really great and super underrated but not incredible. Yes, super catchy and everything but I only really listen to it for the opening transition. That shit is really neat.

Westbound Sign - SMASH. Yeah good song and all but I ALWAYS forget about this song. It's alright. Like obviously it's a great song but it's kind of generic and I can't say too much about it. It does have this nice bridge section that I like where they reference 2000 Light Years Away. At least I'm PRETTY sure that's the reference. He says 2000 miles away, but it's pretty obvious it's a slight reference. Whatever, anyway.

Tight Wad Hill - SMASH. Same thing as the last song. I always forget about this song. Yeah it's great and super catchy I just think it's a little generic and I always forget it.

Walking Contradiction - SMMMMMAAAAAASSSHHHHHHHHH. Holy fuck this is my vote for the fucking funniest Green Day music video to ever exist. PLEASE go check out the video below because it's fucking hilarious. SO good. Also the song is EXTREMELY catchy so that's really helpful to this song. This is a super underrated pick and I honestly feel like this song deserves more recognition than it gets.

Conclusion

I fucking love this album. I'm so thankful for it, it's got so many good underrated songs. It's in this weird middle ground between two S tier albums (Dookie and Nimrod), so it's hard to judge this album. This is definitely an album worth listening to however if you're into punk rock and maybe not necessarily that into Green Day, because this shit is old school cool.

RANK: A

Anyway what do you guys think? How is your Monday going? Wasn't that a great review from Jake yesterday? I was SUPER SUPER busy all weekend so I had zero time for Sunday, so super glad and thankful he stepped in. Much love everyone. Fight hard.
