Intro

Sooooo... Jimmy Eat World. If you want me to be complete honest, I'm really not into this band that much. I honestly find them mostly annoying unless it's an absolute banger of a song. I have listened to this album many times so I have a good understanding of where I'm at. Spoiler alert, this album is okay. I know it was super influential and whatever but now for me it's just a little meh. Anyway yeah let's get into it.

Thoughts & Feelings?

This album makes me feel like I'm playing NHL. I was playing golf with this guy and my playlist was on while we were playing, and he literally looked me straight in the face and said my playlist sounds like it was ripped straight from the NHL games. This band was probably one of the contributing factors. Yeah anyway don't ask me to elaborate further.

I'm going to be honest, I'm not going to write very much about this album because I don't have much to say. Yes I understand this was an extremely important and influential album, but these days I'm just like... yeah it's okay. Just a fine enough album. I think it's pretty mid.

I just got this band mixed up with Yellowcard just now. Just saying. I guess they are kind of similar.

Smash or Pass?

Bleed American - SMASH. Yeah this is a good song, but this was a good song a very long time ago. NOW I find it a little annoying to be completely honest. It's pretty decent and I have fond memories of enjoying this song but now I'm just super over it. I don't want to listen to this song. Overall though from an outside objective view, yes it's great.

A Praise Chorus - SMASH. I really enjoy this one. It doesn't try too hard, it's just a pretty standard easy going alt rock song. It's catchy and simple. This is definitely an underrated pick for me. It's easy going and that's the aspect of this band that I like. Yeah this is a pretty nice song that's exactly what it needs to be.

The Middle - Smash. I'm just over it at this point. This song is GOOD, obviously but I've heard it so many times that it's just annoying to listen to now. Why did I pick this album to review, again? I don't remember. Anyway yeah this song is decent and makes all the girls go crazy but for me it's just kind of meh. Yeah it's a song. I'll listen to it and whatever but yeah it's gotten old. Not in a good way. You know how like some things age well and some things don't? There ya go.

Your House - Smash. Yeah this is fine. It reminds me of Goldfinger and the Barenaked Ladies. Again same thing though where I'm just a little bit annoyed by the song. This song is super boring though. I just kind of spaced out for 4 minutes and forgot I was even listening to music. Yeah this song is FINE but super boring.

Sweetness - SMASH. Alright now we're talking. This is one of those songs that I actually can tolerate over an extended period of time just because of how iconic it is. This is a great Jimmy Eat World song, and I appreciate it very much. I think I enjoy this one just because not only is it super catchy, there are many elements for me to enjoy and it never gets on my nerves. It's just always an absolute banger and it'll stay that way.

Hear You Me - Pass. This is like Your House but worse. It's slow and boring. Pretty fucking heartbreaking theme behind this song though. It's about 2 Weezer fans that died in a car accident on the way home from a concert. Super sad and now my day is sad.

If You Don't, Don't - Smash. This is an example of a song that I really enjoy from this band. It's easy going, nice and light without being boring or making me want to fall asleep. The only issue for me is the background vocals are a little annoying. The solo is really enjoyable in this one.

Get It Faster - Smash. Despite the weird ass intro of this song, I actually REALLY enjoy this song once it actually gets fucking going. This song has a lot of cool aspects to appreciate it and I'll probably get slack for this but I'm probably going to give this one a medal just because it does something interesting and I really appreciate that.

Cautioners - Smash. This song is okay but it's just kind of boring and it has the same vibe as a lot of other songs on this album. I just want faster more rock oriented songs rather than this boring stuff. ZzzZzZZzz. I thought there was at least a little more rock on this album.

The Authority Song - Smash. This song is alright but why does it sound like a YouTube copyright free song? I don't know what it is but this song just makes me think I'm about to watch some sort of tech review. This song is okay. This got really annoying after half the song though.

My Sundown - Pass. Like... every song is the EXACT same, I'm starting to get a little pissed off now. This song is so fucking slow and boring. Now I'm certain how I feel about this album. I don't like it. Fall a fucking sleep.

Conclusion

This album is okay. That's all I really have to say. Some of the songs have aged well for me, some of the songs have become pretty annoying for me. I think it's just an average album and the hype around it is just nostalgia. Anyway, yeah. Honestly, not my cup of tea. I can appreciate this band and the hits they have but when it comes to their actual albums... yikers for me.
