Intro

The Virginmarys are back again with another album. I was pretty divided on Divides, and now I'm conflicted about King of Conflict. Honestly this album is super slow and full of generic songs. Which are the best? Check out the post below.

Thoughts & Feelings?

This album makes me feel like I'm in an alternate universe where rock is the new elevator music, and this is the album that plays in the Empire State Building.

I'll give you a spoiler now- I don't particularly like this album much. All the songs are pretty slow and generic, and I have a hard time enjoying most of these songs. If you want my honest opinion, just check the medal songs and skip all the rest- they aren't worth listening to because they won't have much of an impact on you.

Just a Ride is one of the Virginmary's best songs however. I am a sucker for that song because of how hard it goes, it's great. I would recommend taking a peek at that song, and then heading over to Divides because that album is much better than this one.

Smash or Pass?

Dead Man's Shoes - Smash. I really like the guitar in this song. It's got a groovy beat and sounds very similar to the last album. The chorus isn't really my favourite but it gets the job done. I probably wouldn't put this song in a playlist but it sounds like a pretty decent song. The bridge is kinda neat.

Portrait Of Red - Smash. The intro is pretty neat. The pre-chorus is really really interesting and goes in an unexpected way which is great, but the chorus sounds super annoying and makes me immediately disinterested in this song. I still think it's a cool song but I would never put this in a playlist. The solo is pretty neat though.

Just A Ride - SMAAAAAAASSSSSSHHHHHHHH. This is easily the best song on the album by far. This one is in my playlist and has been for a long time- probably years. This song kicks so much ass, it's just one of those classic punk rock bangers. The vocals are really good when it gets grouchy, and the chorus gets stuck in my head all the time. The main guitar riff is absolutely fucking incredible.

Out Of Mind - Pass. The opening intro is super weird and doesn't vibe with me well. To be honest I'm not super into this song, it just doesn't have a lot going for me. It just kind of seems generic and not in a good sort of way- more like yikes I hope I don't have to listen to this song again. Certainly skippable on this album.

Bang Bang Bang - Pass. I was really hoping this song would be similar to Bang Bang by Green Day, but it's just so fucking slow starting off. It gets better with that neat guitar lick, but other than that it's way too slow for me. The chorus is kinda interesting.

Lost Weekend - Smash. This song barely gets a smash. It's got the same problem where it's slower and doesn't have much going for it. I don't really know if I like this song or not, it's just ok. I wouldn't skip it, but certainly wouldn't go in a playlist. The chorus is the only thing that holds this song together.

Running For My Life - Smash. This one gets a smash but it's not amazing. The scream at the beginning was neat, the song is generally faster and more rocky than the others on this album. The screams continue to be great. The solos are pretty fucking good.

Dressed To Kill - Smash. This song sounds GREAT at the beginning. I absolutely love droning ominous guitar. I'm almost tempted to put this one in my playlist because it sounds great. The chorus is pretty forgettable however, that's the only big downside. The solo is pretty fucking awesome. The chorus lets me down though.

My Little Girl - Smash. This one is pretty groovy and the guitar intro sounds awesome. I just wish they broke it up a little once in a while though, they bring the same guitar lick everywhere- like being a 3rd wheel. It gets very repetitive and I get a little annoyed by it. I REALLY like the bridge / solo because that part's really cool.

Takin' The Blame - Pass. The guitar intro is not very groovy at all. It kind of makes me go "the hell is this?". The screaming parts are awesome but it just doesn't sound good under this strange guitar line. This song feels like it goes on forever, despite only being 3 and a half minutes long.

You've Got Your Money, I've Got My Soul - Smash. The guitar sounds awesome on this song. For some reason it wouldn't play on Spotify so I had to switch to YouTube. This song kicks ass though. The chorus is pretty neat. Good screamy and fast paced action in this one. The bridge is super neat and enjoyable. I like this one a lot, maybe not as much as Dressed To Kill however.

Ends Don't Mend - Smash. The guitar sounds great in this song. Super heavy and chuggy, which is greatly appreciate. I just wish it escalated into something faster. It feels like every song on this album is so fucking slow. The beginning is really interesting, and then you realize it doesn't change into very much or go any faster. The super giant solo at the end is pretty cool. It's like the singer went home for the day but the mic was left on, and they were just allowed to do whatever at the end. Doesn't save the song though. Ohp nevermind- the singer came back.

Conclusion

This album is definitely a downgrade from the last album. There is only 1 song on this album that I'm super passionate about, whereas on Divides there was like 3 or 4 that I loved a lot. Go listen to that album, because this one is much slower and all the songs sound pretty generic. If this album is your thing, then that's great- but I can't stand slow uninteresting songs. This album was pretty boring.

What are your thoughts? Was this better or worse than Divides? Let me know in the comments, and take care everyone.
